Average 401(k) Balance Dips in 3Q But Still Up From a Year Ago  

Fidelity Investments released a new analysis that finds the average 401(k) balance fell 4% in the third quarter, a period in which the S&P 500 similarly dropped 3.7%. So reports CNN.

arrow 24112 640 smallStill, according to Fidelity, the average 401(k) balance remained 11% higher than a year earlier.

That said, the proportion of workers taking hardship withdrawals rose to 2.3% from 1.8% over the same period in 2022.
