Study Focuses on Impact of Social Security Claiming Practices

Individuals can substantially increase their wealth by delaying when they collect Social Security benefits, but many Americans take their retirement benefits early because they stop working, need liquidity or have health reasons. That's according to a recent study published in the Journal of Financial Planning.

Many individuals also file early for Social Security payments because they fear policymakers will reduce their benefits in future years.
