Loss of Client Relationships a Challenge for Retiring Planners

Financial planners often form deep bonds with their clients, so retiring can be difficult as the milestone often involves severing or redefining long-term relationships. However, planners can take steps to ease the transition, according to Joni Youngwirth, managing principal of practice management at Commonwealth Financial Network. Advisors should seek counsel with other planners who have retired and should understand that they shouldn’t interfere with the clients’ relationships with replacement advisors.
